In her motivation letter, Ntombikayise, a Grade 12 learner, related how Ms Khan rescued her from dropping out of school when the trials of her life had become completely overwhelming.
With a winning combination of empathy and ‘tough love’, Ms Khan kept her focused on learning and achieving, and even helped Ntombikayise to start her own small business to help provide for her family.
Khan won a laptop, a R5 000 Woolworths gift card and enjoyed an all-expenses getaway with a partner to Sandton, Gauteng. Ntombikayise Mkhize received a R5 000 cash prize and Sastri College was awarded a R10 000 cash prize.
