Two arrested in weekend crime incidents

TWO men were arrested by security officer in incidents in Glenwood and Umbilo at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said security guards spotted two suspects jumping over a fence in Esther Roberts Road from where they stole two rubbish bins.

“They pointed out the suspects to our officer who gave chase and managed to arrest one of the suspects. Unfortunately, the second suspect got away,” Mathios said.

In the second incident, an alleged copper pipe thief was arrested after he removed cables from a residential property in Bottomley Road, Umbilo.

“A tenant spotted the suspect and provided our officer with a description of the suspect. He patrolled the surrounding area and eventually tracked down and arrested the man in nearby Bartle Road,” Mathios said.

Mathios said a suspect, armed with a knife, held up a staff member at a property in Meadow Road in Overport on Saturday at around 5.45pm. “The suspect jumped over the fence and held up the staff member at knife point and stole his work clothing and bag. No injuries were reported.” He added that in Glenwood two suspects assaulted a security guard on a premises in Moore Road at around 12.15am on Saturday. “Provincial paramedics arrived and treated the security guard,” he said.
