AHMED Al-Kadi (AAK) Hospital staff visited Charles Hugo Primary School to donate first aid boxes and to talk to learners about hand hygiene and head injuries as part of the Department of Health’s Child Health Month.
Hand washing is the simplest and most important step for preventing the spread of infection. “Hand hygiene is important for children to learn to avoid contracting germs and getting sick,” said Sr Kerissa Naidoo, clinical facilitator at AAK. She adds, “head injuries do occur during sports and it is important for children to know how to react in situations when there are no adults present.”
AAK has invested in compiling health education posters to be distributed in schools for learners and teachers, regarding the most common first aid injuries. The first aid boxes were filled with first aid consumables to ensure the school is prepared to handle basic injuries.
