CONCERNS over the closure of the Overport Clinic in Peter Mokaba (Ridge) Road are unfounded, says Councillor Chris Pappas.
This comes after resident, Chris Durand, said pensioners had expressed their fears to him that the newly upgraded clinic never seemed to have medication and appeared to be on the verge of closing.
“A lot of patients are being issued with letters to present at Dischem for tests and medication. I have been told by pensioners that they feel the clinic is scaling down. Dischem can only take so many people, and this situation concerns me greatly,” he said.
In response to queries Pappas said he had checked with the Health Manager for the area as well as the clinic manager, and there was no plan to close the clinic.
“There is a move to create more options for the collection of medication at private pharmacies such as Dischem. This is to free up clinic staff to deal with other patients and to try and alleviate some of the challenges faced by the supply chain process for medication distribution to clinics,” he said.
