THREE German tourists, in their 80s, were robbed by AK47 wielding suspects while on route to King Shaka International airport to catch a flight back home earlier this afternoon.
Blue Security reports that members of the Reaction Unit South Africa received a call reporting an armed robbery in progress on the N2 at the Umdloti Beach off-ramp and rushed to the scene.
When they arrived they discovered the tourists, two men and one woman, had left the scene to catch their flight. Their Uber driver told police he had picked up his clients from their hotel in Umhlanga and they were on their way to the airport when they were boxed in by the occupants of a BMW and a VW Golf 7.
He told police four suspects, all of whom wore balaclavas and were armed with AK47 rifles, approached the victims and robbed them of their luggage and valuables before fleeing the scene in their vehicles.
The victims were not inured during the robbery.
