A MAN was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of dagga in Morningside on 12 March.
According to Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS, at around 8.30pm police were patrolling at the intersection of Rosetta and Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Roads when they noticed a white Hyundai motor vehicle with no registration plates and four occupants parked in the road.
“Two men got out of the back of the vehicle, both of them armed, and proceeded to a VW Polo parked nearby. When the driver of the Polo noticed the suspects approaching he drove off. The police approached the men and they ran towards their vehicle,” said Naidoo.
One of the men managed to get back into the vehicle, however the other man continued running.

“The vehicle sped off and the police chased the suspect who had been left behind and arrested him at Churchill Road. The suspect was searched and a pistol and magazine and three live rounds as well as dagga were recovered,” he said.
The man was charged for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition and possession of dagga. Naidoo said more charges will be added when the complainant of the white Polo contacts the police.
Naidoo said there were two other arrests for possession of dagga during the week.
