Second arrest for ADT guard

A PRIVATE security officer has been praised for his quick response which led to the arrest of a second suspect in as many months.

The most recent suspect, a cellphone thief, is now in police custody.

On Wednesday, 21 February, Fidelity ADT security officer, Zethembe Ntobela, was on patrol in Vause Road when he noticed an individual running from the top of the road while being followed by a white vehicle.

Officer Ntobela immediately pressed his panic button to notify armed response. “All our Fidelity security guards have access to our armed response vehicles in case of emergencies. By activating their panic button, armed response backup is immediately deployed,” explained Fidelity ADT’s district manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Ivan Govender.

Govender said the driver of the vehicle was shouting for help to stop the suspect and Ntobela gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect.

The driver of the vehicle stopped to inform Ntobela that the suspect had stolen a cellphone from a woman in Bellevue Road.

The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the Berea SAPS. The stolen cellphone and a knife were found on the suspect.

Govender praised Ntobela for his quick response and bravery. “We are proud of Officer Ntobela for making another apprehension in the area. We commend his bravery and commitment to keeping the community safe.”
