City calls for public comment on spatial development framework

IN a bid to address planning challenges and promote sustainable development in the City, eThekwini Municipality is calling on the public to submit their comments on the Draft Annual Spatial Development Framework (SDF) for 2018/19.

The framework aims to address long-term spatial development direction that will allow increased economic activities in the city. It is also important to guide the future growth and respond to the development needs of eThekwini residents.

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the SDF is a vital instrument to guide development that will benefit all eThekwini residents.

“The framework is critical to transform our City by providing solutions to common planning development challenges. The framework has the potential, as a coordinating instrument, to integrate environmental, economic and social considerations to ensure that we address spatial inequalities and inefficiencies in society,” Mayor Gumede said.

The SDF 2017/2018 is available at all municipal libraries and Sizakala Centres for viewing and comment. EThekwini residents are encouraged to comment on the document.
