People react to Jacob Zuma’s resignation as President of South Africa

Jacob Zuma has resigned as the President of South Africa. Zuma addressed members of the media at 10pm on 14 February. He affirmed his commitment to the processes of the ANC NEC and said that even though he did not agree with his party’s decision to recall him, he will step down as President of the Republic. Zuma was jovial as he entered the press room to deliver his address. He spoke about the difficulty of serving as the President, the challenges South Africa faces and his commitment to radical economic transformation.

Plans were underway for the vote of no confidence tabled for Thursday, 15 February 2018 but members of parliament will now vote for a new candidate for presidency.
