One-way implemented in Station Drive

Councillor Martin Meyer is pleased Station Drive is now a one-way road.

THE conversion of Station Drive to a one-way road has been welcomed by local ward councillor, Martin Meyer.

Meyer said the proposal to make the road into a one-way came about after consultation with the business community in the road as well as the public who make use of the facilities.

“This is what the businesses and the public wanted and as far as I know there were no objections from the public participation process. It went swiftly and was straightforward and is definitely a win-win all round,” he said.

Meyer said he was grateful to officials for fast tracking the matter.

“I hope the City will make progress in the provision of more parking for the precinct as the lack of parking is still an issue,” he said.

In April this year, Meyer announced that plans were in the pipeline for additional parking space in the Station Drive precinct, following council’s decision to acquire additional land alongside the road that will developed for more parking.

He said there was municipal land on Station Drive and railway land which had not been utilised and at a council meeting in March, the municipality agreed to allow officials to negotiate with PRASA to take over the land to use for parking and further development.
“Unfortunately since the announcement in April, I have heard nothing more about this,” said Meyer.
