Visit Karoo National Park for free to experience new Doornhoek lookout point

Free Entry to the park from 18-24 September.

The Karoo National Park lookout point, situated between Doornhoek Picnic Spot and Klipspringer Pass, overlooks the Nuweveld mountains and Doornhoek escarpment, offering magnificent views.

It took the Karoo Honorary Rangers (HRs) only three weeks to build the new lookout point. New signs and a railing were added to the viewpoint in order to keep guests safe.

“The honorary rangers have turned this lookout into a beautiful spot,” says park manager Nico van der Walt.

The lookout is a must-visit for game and birdviewing, according to Japie Claassen, chairperson of the Karoo HRs.

“One can see Verreaux’s Eagles soaring overhead as there are at least four nests in the near vicinity,” says Japie Claassen, chairman of the Karoo HRs. Claassen also advises that visitors keep an eye out for kudu, gemsbok and Cape mountain zebra in the area. And for those who are patient and fortunate, a special sighting might be on the cards. “An African wild cat lives in the thickets below the lookout point,” says Claassen.
